Coral Garden Story

Once upon a time, there were two high school girls who passionately loved to eat Chinese food. One was Chinese whose grandfather was called konga. He enjoyed cooking mouthwatering food, using his parent’s recipes brought to the Philippines from Fookien, china. The girls used to sit on the table with empty bowls and chopsticks eagerly awaiting Konga’s home cooking. Their favorite was cha miswa with marinated pork slices, meatballs, shrimp, squid, shitake mushrooms laced with threads of egg and Spanish peanuts. But good things do not last forever. It was doom’s day when konga crossed over.

The two searched far and wide to fill the void in their lives. They went to Chinatown and Hong Kong seeking to satisfy their hungry palates to no avail until one day, both asked themselves, “why not just cook it ourselves!” slowly and painstakingly, they experimented to replicate the dishes. Trials and errors were numerous all the ingredients were present but it just did not taste as good as konga’s after almost losing patience, the mom of the Chinese girl pointed out the missing link to the puzzle sayong, “cook with your heart, not just with the ingredients”. Sure enough when the secret ingredients of love and prayer to the gods were added in their cooking, the food tasted just the way they wanted it. In time, their cooking skill evolved later, they developed their own signature recipes, adding more to their repertoire. Voila! Friends and relatives sought their distinct, flavorful cooking. Many persistently urged them to open restaurant.

Coral garden was born in august 1978. Its mission has always been to give a unique and tasty slice of lice to clients, that is, Chinese food ala home cooking, using fresh ingredients seasoned with love.

Why the name Coral Garden?

Even while in the 70’S, the girls were concerned of their environment, particularly the dwindling corals of the seas affecting the ecological balance. As a tribute to the corals of the seas, the name coral garden came about.
